Taking Care of Weeds in Your
Vegetable Garden by Dr. Garden
There are few products the homeowner can buy today that are labeled to control
weeds in the vegetable garden. And that's where they are a big problem!
Vegetable and Ornamental Weeder was developed for this purpose. Vegetable &
Ornamental Weeder contains Treflan® which has been used by commercial
vegetable growers for over 30 years. It controls most annual grasses and many
broadleaves such as pigweed, lambsquarters, chickweed, purslane and many
others. It can be used on such vegetables as asparagus, beans, carrots, cole crops,
celery, cucumbers, greens, peas, pepper, potatoes and tomatoes. Do not use it on
certain vegetables like sweet corn, spinach or beets since these are not tolerant to
the active ingredient.
Vegetable & Ornamental Weeder is easy to use. Simply mix 3 oz. of Vegetable & Ornamental Weeder in 2 gallons of water and spray this on approximately 1000
square feet of garden area. This should be done immediately after seeding or
putting transplants out in your garden. Either irrigate into the soil immediately or
if rain is expected in 1 to 2 days, let it move the product into the soil. You can then
expect weed control for up to 3 months.
Vegetable & Ornamental Weeder can also be used in your flower beds and
ornamental plantings. There are over 160 species listed on the label. Follow the
same procedure as used in the vegetable garden. Remember Vegetable & Ornamental Weeder is a pre-emergence material. It will not control weeds that
have already germinated. Vegetable & Ornamental Weeder can take the hardest
work out of growing and enjoying a vegetable garden and that is keeping the
weeds under control.
